National Canoe Day- June 26, 2009 One year ago, June 26, 2008 was declared the first ever National Canoe Day, nationally sponsored by Nova Craft Canoe. This year, to celebrate the 2nd annual event, Nova Craft, along with key members of the paddling industry and local community, took to the Fork of the Thames River in London, Ontario to pay homage to the canoe, declared by the CBC as one of the “7 Wonders of Canada”. Guests at the event included Mayor Anne Marie DiCicco-Best and artist and philanthropist Philip Aziz. Marcel Gelinas performed the only original music written for National Canoe Day. Titled “Kuhleborn: River Song”, the song was inspired by Gelinas’ own paddling experiences. Acclaimed local vocalist Denys Pelley also performed, singing a powerful a cappella rendition of the national anthem. Nova Craft offered free paddling opportunities to all in attendance and by the end of the day over 100 people had been out on the water. We are looking forward to seeing you at next year’s National Canoe Day event! | |

WHAT SHOULD I KNOW BEFORE I BUY A CANOE? Think of a canoe as a long term investment; you will
probably go through a few computers, TVs, and even
vehicles before you
start to
see the end of your
canoe’s
usefulness. The
longevity of a
canoe
will
help
you create and reflect on lots of fond memories;
from your first
quick solo
day-paddle, to a weekend
adventure with
your best friend, to a
long
expedition with a group
of
fellow paddlers. Whenever
we
see an old canoe we
always
wonder what this craft
could tell us.
To choose the right canoe you should consider the following
questions. 1. What type of paddling do you want to
do? 2. What will the typical trip duration
be? 3. How many people will be using the canoe at one
time? 4. How light does the canoe need to be for portaging and
car-topping? 5. What material is best for your
needs? 6. What is your budget?
CONSIDERATION TO TAKE WHEN PURCHASING A CANOE
The shape, rocker, length, width, depth, keel, tracking and gunnels?

‘07 The Cronje model is described
as “…the quintessential flat water canoe,
reminiscent of its cedar/canvas
predecessor with a
shallow
arch bottom, fast entry lines, pleasing bow and
stern curves, and just the
right amount of
tumblehome.
The Cronje is a
fast,
easy gliding
canoe, with
excellent tracking
characteristics, making
it a
superb open
water
performer.
The appreciable
volume
and
grace on the
water make this
canoe a
great
choice for canoe
trips”,
adds Rolf
Kraiker.
The Cronje was named after the
underdog of the Boer War, a prominent figure,
Commandant General P.A.

Nova Craft has created a totally unique piece of furniture based on our Angler canoe. It is 15' long, about 23" deep, with all cushions covered in genuine leather! This is definitely the most comfortable canoe out there! You can see it at London's Paddle Shop in London, Ontario or wait until March for Canoecopia in Madison WI. It is possible to order one, simply contact us at Nova Craft Canoe and we will tell you all the details. Just so you know... Our Blue Steel canoes are really making an impression in the paddling community! During the summer of 2005 we equipped three professional paddlers on different excursions in northern Canada, and they were all using our Prospector 17' made of Blue Steel. After their trips all of the feedback had the following sentiment in common, "It's great to have a hull so solid and the convinience of portaging such a light canoe." In 2005, there
weren't
enough
hours
in a
week to
build
all
the Blue
Steel canoes we
had
on order. In
addition we
also
had to
face a
shortage of
kevlar
products
due to the
U.
S. military
demand for them.
However, we
did manage
to get
everybody
out in
their
boat by the end of
the
season.
In
case you
are
